Sri Lanka Cricket Board has unveiled the 15-member Squad for the forthcoming ICC Men’s cricket World Cup 2019 which will kick off on May 30 at England and Wales.
Dimuth Karunaratne will lead the Sri Lanka team in the Mega event. There are hot debate and concerns over the 15-member Squad and Dimuth Karunanatne’s Captaincy as his last appearance in the ODI’s was in previous World Cup 2015.
The left-handed skipper played a total of 17 ODI’s in his Cricket career at 15.83 as batting average.
It was shocking news when the selectors announced Karunaratne as captain. The Sri Lanka team had different experiments and the captaincy exchange hand often in recent tours.
In the last few series, Sri Lanka had three different captains as Lasith Malinga, then Chandimal and Angelo Mathews all have been at the helm for some time.

The fans were expecting, Lasith Malinga to lead the team in the Showpiece event. Sri Lanka should have stuck with Lasith Malina as he is a senior and experienced influencer player, given him all the encouragement and support. Malinga can motivate the whole team behind the captain and mark the history in the big event.
Sri Lanka is happy to ignore the latest indiscretions of selecting the squad and keep an eye on the Big Cup.
Jeffrey Vandersay, Milinda Siriwardana, and Jeevan Mendis has a surprise comeback and selected in the Sri Lanka 15-member Squad.
Vandersay and Siriwardana both played last ODI in October 2017 and Jeevan Mendis last performed in a match against Afghanistan in the World Cup 2015.
Surprisingly many in-form players, Danushka Gunathilaka, Niroshan Dickwella, Akila Dananjaya, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Perera, Wanindu Hasaranga and Upul Tharanga, are excluded and didn’t make into the Squad.
Sri Lanka has an abundance of good all-rounders, the most destructive and classical, Thisara Perera could be a match-winning player. Thisara Perera is an experienced all-rounder, he has gained his fitness back, and his batting is improved.
Perera is the leading run-scorer in his last 15 innings and his strong confidence for sure will give stable support to the team. Sri Lanka team need to trust and let him bowl for at least eight overs in a crucial time
There are also two very crucial players at the middle order batting line of Sri Lanka in the squad. A left-handed Lahiru Thirimanne and Dhananjaya de Silva, Sri Lanka will face a hard time to decide which player will bat in the middle order because they didn’t seem in rhythm in recent series.
Sri Lanka might not take any risk and will go with experienced Angelo Mathews as he is fit and his aggressive batting style put some decent runs on board along with brilliant variation in bowling skills.
