Cricket World Cup 2019 is the 12th edition of Cricket World Cup (CWC) which is scheduled from May, 30 to 14 July, 2019.

10 teams would be playing this year’s World Cup. The top eight teams as per ICC Ranking qualify automatically 18 months prior to the event. The remaining two teams qualify through the Cricket World Cup Qualifier round which is played in the year prior to Cricket World Cup event.

Cricket World Cup (CWC) is played after every four years. Previously, in CWC 2011 and 2015 total 14 teams featured in the tournament, but ICC has reduced the number of teams to 10 for this year CWC. Have a look at the list of teams that would compete in this year’s World Cup.

Cricket World Cup 2019 Host

England & Wales would host this year’s Cricket World Cup 2019 which would kick off from May, 30 to July, 14.

It is the fifth time that England and Wales is hosting the Grand event following 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1999 World Cups. England and Wales has been awarded the rights to host Cricket World Cup 2019 in April, 2006 as result of backing out from the bidding to host Cricket World Cup 2015 which was played in Australia and New Zealand.

Cricket World Cup 2019 Venues

The Cricket World Cup 2019 Schedule along venues has been announced on 26 April 2018 by ICC. The first match will be played on 30 May in Oval between the host England vs South Africa. Semi-Finals would be played on 9th July in Old Trafford, Manchester and 11th July in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The Cricket World Cup 2019 Final would be played on 14th July in Lords, London.

List of venues for Cricket World Cup 2019

Total 48 matches would be played in a span of 45 days on 11 venues in 10 cities of England and Wales. The Oval cricket ground would host the opener match of CWC19, Old Trafford and Edgbaston in Birmingham would host the Semi-Finals and Lords ground to stage the Final of CWC19.

Old Trafford would be the host of maximum six matches of World Cup 2019, whereas Edgbaston, Hampshire, Lords, The Oval and Trent Bridge would be staging five matches each. The venues of cricket world cup 2019 with capacity details are discussed below.

Warwickshire is the county team of Edgbaston stadium. Edgbaston capacity for spectators is 25,000. It is the fourth largest ground in England. Edgbaston would host five matches including the semi-final of Cricket world cup 2019.

Bristol Country Ground, Bristol

Bristol County Ground is also known as Nevil Road. It is the home to Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. This ground is privileged with world-class media center and conference facilities. Sophia Gardens, Cardiff

Lords, London

This ground was established in 1845 which means this ground is 174 years old ground. This ground has the privilege of hosting the first international Test match in England in September 1885. It has a capacity of 25,500 spectators and five contests of the CWC19 would be played here including the mouth-watering contest of Australia vs India.

Old Trafford, Manchester

Old Trafford cricket ground is also known as Emirates Old Trafford due to sponsorship commitments. It is established in 1857 in Greater Manchester, England and has a capacity for 26,000 spectators. It is home to Lancashire country cricket club since 1864. This venue is selected for one of the Semi-Final of upcoming World Cup 2019, beside semi-final five other group matches would be contested on this ground.

Trent Bridge, Nottingham

Trent Bridge cricket ground is located in West Bridgford Nottinghamshire, England. This ground has the privilege of hosting T20 blast finals twice. It has also hosted the semi-final of T20 World cup in 2009. It was established in 1841 and has the capacity of adjusting 17,500 spectators. Trent Bridge would host five matches of this year’s World cup 2019 including the match between Pakistan vs England on 3rd June.

Rose Bowl, Southampton

It is the home to Hampshire county cricket club since 2001. This ground was constructed in 2001 as a replacement to previous home ground, which was a county ground to Southampton. County Ground, Taunton

Taunton County ground is an international venue for Test and One day internationals in Taunton, Somerset. This ground is located between Priory Bridge Road and St James Street and was built in 1882. This ground is the home to Somerset County cricket club and have played their first match in 1882. It has also hosted two group stage matches in 1999 World Cup. This ground is also being used for Women’s international cricket matches since 1999 and has become the home to England Women’s Cricket team. It has the capacity of 12,500 and would host three group matches of Cricket world cup 2019.

Cricket World Cup 2019 Groups

Cricket World Cup 2019 would have a single group of all 10 teams. All matches would be played in a round-robin format, in which each team would contest the other nine teams. The top four teams of the list would progress to knock out stage of semi-finals and then the two winners teams of semi-finals would then play the final on 14 July.

The new thing about this year’s world cup is that no associate teams are included in this world cup due to the reason this event has been criticized as well. It would be the first time in history that two test playing nations Ireland and Zimbabwe would not be the part of this year’s World Cup.
